NAOMI CARROLL
A local tattoo studio contacted me as they were desperate for their studio to represent their brand and also for their space to reflect the high quality and creative work they produce.
Budget was tight, so they booked a consultation appointment at their studio for us to go through their likes, dislikes, influences and passions. This was a very informative session because as with most people, there were numerous differing styles that were thrown into the mix. From Art Nouveau, carnival sign writing, Japanese designs to clutter free minimalism! I collated all of this information and went away and created a mood board.......

Mood board for Tattoo Studio

The design needed to be sharp and make an impact. Through the mood board I proposed the ceiling to be painted a true black then colour blocked onto the walls to create zones. The first colour block being for the work area, the black also acting as a great backdrop for photos of completed tattoo designs.
The second colour block to allow the studio owners to collate and display their multitude of differing artworks and collectables. By containing them in this one zone contrasting styles can sit happily alongside each other.
Faux plants add life and soften the sharp lines.
Zoning was further enhanced by changing the flooring for the work area.
Because of the obvious hygiene restrictions, all finishes and surfaces had to be wipe able or washable. For this reason faux plants were suggested along with materials such as glass, metals and lino for flooring.

All work was then completed and installed by the clients at their own pace. The mood board allowed the clients to pick and choose elements they wanted to implement now and also provide inspiration for further changes they wish to add, "every time we think of purchasing something or making a change we refer back to the mood board."
